The effect of pre-mutation of X chromosome CGG trinucleotide repeats on brain anatomy.
Expanded trinucleotide repeats are associated with several neuropsychiatric disorders, including fragile X syndrome (FraX) which is the most common inherited form of mental retardation. It is currently thought that FraX results from having >200 CGG trinucleotide repeats, with consequent methylation of the fragile X mental retardation gene (FMR1) and loss of FMR1 protein (FMRP). Pre-mutation car...
متن کاملDistinctive structural motifs of RNA G-quadruplexes composed of AGG, CGG and UGG trinucleotide repeats
Trinucleotide repeats are microsatellite sequences that are polymorphic in length. Their expansion in specific genes underlies a number of neurodegenerative disorders. Using ultraviolet-visible, circular dichroism, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopies and electrospray ionization mass spectrometry, the structural preferences of RNA molecules composed of two and four repeats of AGG, CG...
متن کاملBacteriophage Mu targets the trinucleotide sequence CGG.
Target specificity for bacteriophage Mu was studied using a new phage derivative that enabled cloning of Mu-host junctions from phage DNA. Insertions distributed throughout the chromosome showed no orientation bias with respect to transcription or replication polarity. Genes with a high frequency of the triplet CGG were preferred targets.
متن کاملtrinucleotide repeats ataxia
the hereditary ataxias are a group of genetic disorders characterized by slowly progressive incoordination of gait and often associated with poor coordination of hands, speech, and eye movements. frequently, atrophy of the cerebellum occurs. the hereditary ataxias are categorized by mode of inheritance and causative gene or chromosomal locus. genetic forms of ataxia must be distinguished from t...
متن کاملTrinucleotide repeats and neurodegenerative disease.
Major insights have been attained into the molecular pathology of the trinucleotide repeat neurodegenerative diseases over the past decade. Genetic definition has allowed subclassification into translated polyglutamine diseases, which are due to CAG repeat expansions, and a more heterogeneous group in which the trinucleotide repeat remains untranslated. The polyglutamine disorders are due to a ...
